An established danseuse of the Indian classical dance style Bharatha Natyam, Maya has grown into a connoisseur of the art by following her passion since the tender age of four. She has the unique distinction of having performed her Arangetram (1st public performance) at the young age of nine. Thereafter, she has had to her credit over a hundred performances across the country in a career spanning nearly three and half decades.
Under the aegis of the illustrious Gurus, Late Kalaimamani Guru T.K. Mahalingam Pillai and Kalaimamani Guru K. Kalyanasundaram of Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir, Matunga, Mumbai; she has been chiseled into the nuances of the art. She has also been teaching this dance form for almost two decades.
Was part of the Core Cultural Team leading the 90th Birthday Celebrations of Bhagwan Sri Satya Sai Baba, in Puttaparthi, involving over 2000 Children, from 90 schools, across the country, for multiple cultural presentations through the whole of 2015.
Over the past three years, she has choreographed dance pieces and taught basics of Bharathanatyam at a couple of rural schools in the borders of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, as part of the Cultural Programmes of the Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vahini project, wherein Education in Human Values is integrated into secular academics.
Performed at Hiranandani School, Powai, Mumbai for the Annual Festival of Powai Fine Arts in Jan 2013 under the aegis of her Guru Kalaimamani Guru K. Kalyanasundaram in the august presence of Pandit Jasraj and renowned singer Hariharan.
On the occasion of the 9th Easwaramma Memorial Lecture on “The role of women in society”, organized by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Mumbai on May 6th, 2012, she presented her production – “Bhakti Pravaham”, this time based on the theme “Pancha Maha Bhavas”.
Produced, conceptualised, scripted, choreographed and performed along with her students a 2 ½ hour dance presentation entitled “Bhakti Pravaham” based on the theme “Nava Vidha Bhakti” at the Annual Festival of Mulund Fine Arts Society, Mumbai on 26th Jan, 2011.
She has had the honour of having some of her students perform their Arangetram and subsequently at some of the dance festivals in the city of Mumbai.

Recipient of the National Talent Research Scholarship for the years 1990-1999.

Won the First Prize in the Classical Dance Competition conducted by the Nehru Centre during the Centenary Celebrations of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, 1991.
Gold Medalist in the Zonal & Final Classical Dance Celebrations conducted by the Pacific Cultural Association, Mumbai, 1989.
